Demographics + Trends
Metro Denver has a population of just over 2.6 million people. The region's population growth rate has consistently outpaced the nation's rate during every decade since the 1950s. The population in Metro Denver grew significantly during the past decade, averaging 2.1 percent per year from 1996-2006.
A large portion of Metro Denver's population growth is due to in-migration of people from other states. The Metro area's net migration averaged about 30,600 people each year during the 1990s.
Population estimates predict in-migration in Metro Denver will average about 20,000 people each year between 2000 and 2010, but will level off in the long term due to lower population growth nationally and an aging population. The top five states for migration to Colorado are California, Texas, Arizona, Florida, and Illinois.
