Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority: providing vital support for life science.

In 1996, the City of Aurora and University of Colorado worked together to create a special-purpose entity called the Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority (FRA). The FRA was given a single mission: to imagine and govern the evolution of a historic army medical center into one of the world’s most forward-looking bioscience districts. The top community leaders on the FRA board of directors are dedicated to this vision for the Fitzsimons Life Science District. In partnership with the University of Colorado, the City of Aurora, The Children’s Hospital and other public entities, the FRA acquired much of the Fitzsimons site and began to implement an ambitious redevelopment plan.

FRA roles and forward momentum.

The Fitzsimons Redevelopment Authority directs the commercial developments in the District, along with its partner, Forest City Science + Technology Group. In this role, the FRA is dedicated to providing life science companies: an environment where they can thrive; success-enhancing resources like the District’s incubator facilities; and services that help form connections between private industry and the University of Colorado.

The result? Aurora’s Fitzsimons Life Science District is becoming what its founders envisioned: a functioning community that directly supports the health and well-being of life science companies.
